ROLES & HELP WANTED |
Dear Applic-ANTS,
| You need not think your only involvement with the Beehive
must be in person in thefar reaches of Eastern Maine!
As our organism grows and develops we are experimenting
increasingly with decentralizing its structure. Basically,
there's a host of things to work on that don't require
full time (or even in-person) collaboration - in fact many
of the bees haven't even been
to Maine! Collaboration can be what you make of it, and
linking up with other active bees or manifesting your
own participation are both encouraged! |
FULL-TIME, dedicated volunteers
to live and work with us at our Hive in Machias
in one of the following roles:
- GRANGE COORDINATOR
- PUBLIC RELATIONS BEE
- DISTRIBUTION COORDINATOR
- TOUR & EVENTS PLANNER
- TECHIE BEE
- BUILDINGS & GROUNDS BEE
|
All full-time bees work hard in a specific, hive-sustaining role a little more than half the time, and are able to spend the rest of their time learning new skills or pursuing creative projects. Bees also share in the work of maintaining the live-work space of the Clark Perry House, touring and fundraising, and speaking at public events.
Beehive work often calls for long hours, whether we're on the road, in the office or studio, or out and about in the community. As a young organization, we are constantly evolving new ways of doing things. Because of this, we ask everyone who works with us to be honest and upfront about how much time they can commit, to follow-through on the tasks they take on, and to take responsibility for their part of this evolving process. We also ask that if and when bees move on to other things, that each help find and train the next person to take on their role, ensuring that we pass on our acquired know-how and don't leave other bees with extra tasks.
The bees acquired the Clark Perry House with the goal of accomodating a full swarm of bees comfortably throughout the year. Our meals are organic, vegan, and delicious, prepared by bees on a rotating basis. The Collective provides a supportive, mostly-female work environment.
