Interested in sharing some of your time and energy with the Bees?
Please tell us a little bit about yourself- your availability, interests, skills, and needs- by answering the questions below. We'll contact you to follow up, or when we have needs that match!
FOR PROSPECTIVE VOLUNTEERS:
Looking to visit the Hive, pitch in for a few weeks, make some new friends, link up with us on tour, or help from home?
You're interested in being a Volunteer!
Since our work looks really different season to season, we may ask to keep your information on file for a while, and get back in touch with you when the moment's right. You can always contact us directly by phone or email if your availability changes or to keep up to date on the Hive's calendar.
This summer, we're planning for an August workparty, where we'll be working together outside at our collective house in Maine, cooking big collective meals in our well-apportioned kitchen, and spending lots of time organizing events at the Machias Valley Grange Hall, the community space & cultural center we own and operate in collaboration with lots of local allies, volunteers, and other organizations in our small rural town. The culmination of all this excitement will be a giant dress up dance party for all- the Blackfly Ball- for which you'll definitely need your dancing shoes and a shaky tail feather! If you like to draw, garden, make friends, lift heavy things, dance, revive historic buildings, or generally contribute your time to our collective efforts, please consider volunteering!
FOR PROSPECTIVE APPRENTICES:
Hoping to make Beehive work your primary gig for at least four months (and hopefully longer)? Keen to learn new skills, spend time in Maine, take on a combination of administrative and creative labor, and possibly develop a long term relationship with the Collective?
You're interested in becoming an Apprentice!
This Summer, we're offering between 4 and 6 Apprenticeships beginning on May 21st (we might be flexible...) to folks who can commit to working with us through the Commonground Fair (September 27th). We're especially keen to host Apprentices with skills, experience, and interest in Tech (website design or oversight, database management, etc), Community Organizing (esp. in a rural context), Materials Distribution (webstore, infoshop, library, etc), Volunteer Coordination (group leadership, team facilitation, etc), and/or Public Relations (outreach, networking, etc), though we're very open to hearing about how you could see yourself contributing to the work of the Hive!
If you are seeking an Apprenticeship, we'll get back in touch with you right away to discuss our intake process, which is a bit more intensive for this sort of work than other volunteer gigs. It's a big commitment on both ends to live and work together full time! We want to make sure our life patterns will work for you, and that you're well suited to the pace and practices of the Collective. You'll also notice (at the bottom of this form) that we're asking you to write a letter of introduction to the collective using our "20 Questions" as a guide, and that we're seeking a few references who can give us some additional perspective on working with you.
Thank you for your interest in swarming with the Hive!
