After the 2003 Guatemalan elections, HIJOS - children and friends of the disappeared - went and whitewashed conservative party propaganda and replaced it with a beautiful no PPP mural featuring graphics from our Latin American Solidarity poster

This graphic was created in collaboration with the networks of Latin American Solidarity Coalition for their events in the Spring of 2003. The funds for printing, and massive distribution of 15,000 posters were a coordinated effort of these groups, headed up by School of the Americas Watch, based in DC.

Here's a little story about these anti-copyright graphics taking on a life of their own... While on our journey of doing investigations for the Mesoamerica Resiste project, we discovered that a reproduction of this graphic was created by HIJOS, of Guatemala, an art-therapy organization for the children and families of disappeared persons. The mural replaced one created by the local right-wing party- after the elections HIJOS whitewashed the propaganda and put a beautiful mural in its place: full color, featuring characters from the Beehive's Latin America Solidarity poster... It was surprising and amazing seeing the drawings come to life!!!
